HOUSE AT FINGAL

The alterations to Bambery Cottage are respectful of the existing house yet serve as a contemporary addition to suit a couple with young families visiting often. A new two storey addition replaced an existing extension with the design carefully considering the views offered by the site. A new bedroom sees through carefully positioned windows to the Tweed River, street trees and sunset.

The aesthetic is contemporary and simple in form and the external material palette, of mainly fc sheeting, references the fibro beach shacks common to Fingal Head. To make the garage less dominant from the street, we proposed timber battening to the street and western side in between the expressed joints which run around the building.

The interior material palette is classic and rich in texture with soft grey marble, vj boards and a combination of charcoal and whites throughout.  Brass fittings and finishes also reference the traditional character of the home.

The new media room and outdoor entertainment area have a high raked roofline with exposed beams. The roofline is lifted towards the main house so that the kitchen and living spaces in the cottage will maintain views to the water and access to northern light.
